Purpose of NIXNET Medieval:

NIXNET Medieval was created for the purpose of promoting and displaying all aspects of Medieval Art History on the internet. This site is intended to be a central source for information on all Art History belonging to the approximately one-thousand year period between the fall of the Western Roman Empire and the advent of the Renaissance. The principle content of NIXNET Medieval consists of organised links to external sites, chosen and rated on the basis of quality, scholarship, completeness, and relevance. All listed sites and commentaries are either the product of the webmaster's research, suggestions from other webmasters, or submissions from contributors. Though every effort is made to ensure that listed sites are accurate and relevant, the Webmaster is not responsible for content on linked sites, nor commentaries on NIXNET pages.

Goals of NIXNET Medieval:
  • to aid the students, researchers, teachers, professors, and the general population alike in learning about medieval art history

  • to promote and increase awareness of lesser known medieval art and architecture, especially in economically depressed or threatened regions

  • to create links to all noteworthy sites regarding medieval art and architecture regardless of size and context

  • to eventually create a searchable index of links

  • to eventually expand to have more content in the form of pictures, multimedia and text

About Nick Herman, webmaster:

Ok already, enough with the formalities. Hello, I am Nick Herman, a 17 year old Art History student living in Toronto, Canada. I obviously have an obsession with Medieval Arts and anything Medieval. Much of my life revolves around medieval art, (discovering new gothic churches is a favourite passtime), although since I'm in high school it must be understood that I have other, more pressing "social concerns" Call me closed minded but I absolutely can't stand any art that isn't medieval. Perhaps that is a bit of an exaggeration but I think it's clear where my loyalties lie in the art world. I especially am interested in late gothic art, which is more intricate than earlier, "primitive" gothic. I create my own medieval art such as manuscripts, paintings, models and various small objects like jewellry as a hobby. I also worked on an urban design project a few years ago, called Columbia, which has many buildings built in the medieval style. I also travel to Europe (I have a house in the South of France, near Avignon) once or twice a year where I visit numerous medieval sites. I have also created my own gothic cathedral. Please feel free to email me for more information at: hermans@interlog.com
